Re: NACC to receive "Friend of The Arts" SUNSHINE Award at Top 20

Tomorrow night (Thursday 11th December, 2014) the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) will be presented the 2014 SUNSHINE Awards "Friend of the Arts" Award for its contribution to the performing arts. This handover will take place at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya during the NACC's own 27th Annual Top 20 Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony.  The ceremony begins at 7:30pm.

The NACC was selected for the award earlier this year for the 26th Annual SUNSHINE Awards. However, due to the NACC's request the award will be presented tomorrow, by Mr Gil Figaro, founder and Chairman of the SUNSHINE Awards.

The NACC is being awarded, as stated by the organising committee of the SUNSHINE Awards, for its involvement: "in the various Caribbean art forms and carnival since the 1970's. NACC is also credited for designing and developing many training and development programs for young performing artists. In fact, many veteran calypsonians today have benefited from its development programs. NACC also promotes the National Young Kings and the Calypso Queen competitions. The organization also plays an active role in the African Liberation Day and the Liberation Day celebrations."

The Top 20 Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony  was introduced by the NACC in 1988 in order to develop greater respect and appreciation for the art form of calypso and those involved in the art. At these awards the twenty best calypsoes of the previous year are award for their excellence in lyrics, music and originality of composition.

Interested parties can call 623-5470 / 222-3471 or email NACCcommunications@gmail.com, for further information.
