THE NACC ANNOUNCES FINAL DATES OF THE YOUNG KINGS AND OTHER COMPETITIONS

The National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) is pleased to announce the dates of the various competitions' finals which the organization hosts annually. These competitions are the Young Kings Calypso Monarch , and the Veterans Honours List (formerly Veterans Calypso Monarch). The 'Young Kings' will take place on Monday 6 th February at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA). The 'Veterans Honours List' will also be hosted at the NAPA, on Monday 13 th February, 2012. In addition the NACC will be hosting the 2011 Top 20 Stars of Tomorrow Awards Ceremony on Saturday 14 January, 2012 at NAPA. The NACC also wishes to advise that the auditions for the 'Young Kings' are on Saturday 7 th and Sunday 8 th January, at its offices on 40 Duke St, POS. The auditions for the Young Kings, the National Calypso Queen, and the Stars of Tomorrow Competitions, will be held on Saturday 7 th January and Sunday 8 th January at NACC Offices, #40 Duke Street, Port-of-Spain. The 24 th Annual “Top 20” Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday 7 th January 2012, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts,(NAPA) Upper Frederick Street, Port of Spain. The “Top 20” are awards of distinction and represent the pinnacle of achievement for excellence in calypso composition and the system of adjudication seeks to tap Trinidad & Tobago’s collective wisdom in order to establish national consensus about the essence of truly great calypsoes

Top Forty Calypsos Elegible For The Top Twenty Stars Of Gold Awards

The National Action Cultural Committee has circulated the 2011 “Top 40” Stars of Gold Calypsoes to forty (40) judges who have been selected to choose those calypsoes which are eligible for the 24th Annual ‘Top 20 Stars of Gold Calypso Awards.’ These awards are for the twenty most outstanding calypsoes of 2011. The 24 th Annual “Top 20” Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday 7 th January 2012, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Upper Frederick Street, Port of Spain. The “Top 20” are awards of distinction and represent the pinnacle of achievement for excellence in calypso composition and the system of adjudication seeks to tap Trinidad & Tobago’s collective wisdom in order to establish national consensus about the essence of truly great calypsoes. Results of The 15th Annual Calypso & Extempo Competition

  Timel Rivas was the winner of the first prize in the 5-18 age group of the Emancipation Calypso Competition hosted yesterday (Friday 29 th July) by the National Action Cultural Committee in association with First Citizens and the National Youth Action Committee, at the SWWTU Hall, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain. Caston Cupid was the winner of the 19 – 32 age grouping. Fireball was the winner of the extempo competition , with Nkosi Anyika placing second. Third place was Phil Browne and fourth place Sarah Cobbler. The results of the competitions, are as follows:

The Story of Emancipation

Story of Emancipation - Part 1 1984-2010 Produced by the National Action Cultural Committee, the cultural arm of the National Joint Action Committee. Broadcast on Radio i95.5 Monday to Friday, at 11.55 am and 5.55pm Origin Originally, a series of ten minute programmes broadcast annually on radio 610 and radio 730 in the republic of Trinidad and Tobago, now a series of five minute programmes, in observation of Emancipation day, in recognition of Emancipation as a world phenomenon and in recognition of the   UN declared international    year for people of African descent.

15TH ANNUAL EMANCIPATION CALYPSO & EXTEMPO COMPETITION

THE NACC AND FIRST CITIZENS HOST THE 15 TH ANNUAL EMANCIPATION CALYPSO & EXTEMPO COMPETITION The National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) in association with First Citizens is pleased to announce that the 15 th Annual Emancipation Calypso & Extempo Competition takes place on Friday 29 th July 2011 at the SWWTU Auditorium, Wrightson Road. This event is also being held in association with the National Youth Action Committee (NYAC). The competition takes place from 8:30pm. The age categories are 5-18 years and 19-32years for the Calypso segment, whereas the Extempo competition is open to all ages. We have scheduled auditions for Saturday 16 th July, 2011.  The Emancipation Calypso Competition serves to empower youth for the future, through knowing their past. This competition emerged in August of 1997 and is hosted annually by the National Action Cultural Committee. At that time, the lack of material written on Emancipation had become quite clear. Heather Mac Intosh is the new National Calypso Queen . Heather captured the title of National Calypso Queen last night (Monday 14 th February), with a composition entitled “ Keep It” , at the National Calypso Queen Competition hosted by the National Women’s Action Committee, at the Kitchener Auditorium, NAPA. The Young Kings Calypso Monarch Competition  was hosted last night (Monday 21st February) by the National Action Cultural Committee at the Lord Kitchener Auditorium, NAPA . CALYPSO PIONEERS and CALYPSO JEWELS COMPETITIONS 2011

The National Youth Action Committee yesterday (Wednesday 16th February) hosted the Calypso Pioneers and the Calypso Jewels competitions at the Jean Pierre Complex. The Calypso Jewels competition was won by Ferdinand Smith, whilst Aaron Duncan and Timel Rivas were joint winners of the Calypso Pioneers competition.
