NACC to receive "Friend of The Arts" SUNSHINE Award at Top 20

December 10, 2014 News Release Re: NACC to receive "Friend of The Arts" SUNSHINE Award at Top 20     Tomorrow night (Thursday 11th December, 2014) the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) will be presented the 2014 SUNSHINE Awards "Friend of the Arts" Award for its contribution to the performing arts. This handover will take place at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya during the NACC's own 27th Annual Top 20 Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony.  The ceremony begins at 7:30pm.

Auditions Recheduled for Young Kings, National Calypso Queen and Stars of Tomorrow

December 10, 2014 News Release Re: Auditions rescheduled for Young Kings, National Calypso Queen and Stars of Tomorrow Auditions for the 2015 Carnival's Young Kings Calypso Monarch Competition, the National Calypso Queen Competition and the Stars of Tomorrow Calypso Competition, have been rescheduled. The auction dates for the Young Kings and the National Calypso Queen are now Saturday 3rd January and Sunday 4th January, 2015.

News Release:Top 20 Stars of Gold Announced

Thursday, December 4, 2014 News Release Top 20 Calypsoes of 2014 Announced Every year hundreds of musical works are released in the musical sub-genres of calypso. Annually, of these works, only twenty are adjudicated as being the best by the Top 20 Panel of Judges. The National Action Cultural Committee wishes to announce the Top 20 calypsoes for 2014. The calypsoes, listed in alphabetical order, are as follows:

Top 40 Calypsoes of 2014

Top 40 Calypsoes 2014 The National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) are pleased to announce the Top 40 Calypsoes for 2014. From these calypsoes a panel of judges will select the Top 20 Calypsoes of 2014. Awards for the Top 20 calypsoes will be presented at the 27 th Annual 'Top 20' Calypso Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony. This ceremony takes place on Thursday 11 th December 2014 at the Andre Kamperveen Hall, Centre of Excellence, Macoya from 7:30pm. The 'Top 20' Awards are awards of distinction for excellence in calypso composition. The NACC's system of adjudication seeks to establish national consensus about the essence of truly great calypsoes.            The list in alphabetical order of the selections is as follows:

Emancipation to Republic Youth Rally

Children of the Nation: Emancipation to Republic This year the National Youth Action Committee (NYAC) will be hosting our tenth annual "CHILDREN OF THE NATION – FROM EMANCIPATION TO REPUBLIC YOUTH RALLY" in the form of a theatre production. This production will be held at Queen's Hall, 1 – 3 St. Ann's Road, St. Ann's on Tuesday, October 7 th 2014 from 10 am to 12:15 pm.  This cultural programme will be held in observance of the country's thirty-eight (38 th ) anniversary as a Republic. The programme will be dramatically depicted by leading young artistes in dance, music and drama, as well as informed persons on the entire process of national development and students of secondary schools nationally.    

Results of Emancipation Calypso Competition 2014

ANEKA COLLINS is the winner of the first prize in the 5-17 age group of the Emancipation Calypso Competition hosted on Friday 12 th September by the National Action Cultural Committee in association with First Citizens and the National Youth Action Committee, at the SWWTU Hall,   Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain. SASHA ANN MOSES was the winner of the 18 – 35 age grouping. 5-17 age group

Order of Appearance of Emancipation Calypso Competition

Monday, September 11, 2014 News Release              The National Action Cultural Committee and the National Youth Action Committee is pleased to announce the order of appearance for the finalists of the 2014 Emancipation Calypso Competition . This national youth calypso competition is produced annually by the committees and will be held at 7:30 pm , on Friday 12th February, 2014 , at the SWWTU Hall , Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain. There are two categories in this competition: the first for artistes 5 to 17 years old and the second for artistes between 18 and 35 years old. The orders of appearance for the two age-groups are as follows:

Dr Verene Shepherd-to meet with the Trinidad & Tobago National Committee on Reparations

Members of the Trinidad and Tobago National Committee on Reparations (TTNRC) as well as nationals of the African diaspora are set to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the co-Chairperson of the CARICOM Reparations Commission (CRC) Dr. Verene Shepherd as Emancipation is observances continue this month. Dr. Shepherd, who is also the Chair of Jamaica's National Commission on Reparations, arrived in Trinidad and Tobago for a five (5) day visit on  August 8 th 2014 and she will be here until  August 13 th 2014.

32nd Emancipation Dinner and Public Lecture

News Release Re: Prof. Verene Shepherd, guest of the NACC Professor Verene Shepherd, Director of the Regional Institute for Gender & Development Studies, University of the West Indies and Co-Chairman of the Caribbean Reparations Committee will be the feature speaker at the 32 nd Annual Emancipation Day Dinner of the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC). The dinner will be held on Saturday 9 th August, at the Andre Kamperveen Hall, Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Tunapuna from 8 p.m.

30th Annual Prize-giving for the Young Kings Calypso Monarch Competition

The NACC is pleased to inform the nation that the prizegiving ceremony for the 30 th Annual Young Kings Calypso Monarch Competition will be held on Wednesday 18 th June 2014 at the Audiovisual Room NALIS, National Library, Hart & Abercomby Streets, Port of Spain from 6.00 pm. Following a reception the formal aspect of the ceremony will begin at 7.00 pm. The results of the competition for this year were as follows:

Prizegiving Ceremony for Juniors/Pathfinders Calypso Competition

The NYAC hosts the Juniors/Pathfinders Calypso Prize Giving Function 2014             The National Youth Action Committee hosts the prize giving ceremony for the Junior/Pathfinders Calypso Competition 2014, on Saturday 7th June, 2014, from 4:30pm. The competition was held in association with Petrotrin who have sponsored the Juniors /Pathfinders for a number of years.

National Calypso Queen Prize-giving 2014

NWAC hosts National Calypso Queen Prize Giving Ceremony 2014                     The National Women's Action Committee will be hosting it's prize giving ceremony for the National Calypso Queen competition 2014. The competition was held in association with NLCB and the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism who has had long standing association with this competition for a number of years. The ceremony will be held at NALIS Audio-visual Room on Abercromby Street, in Port of Spain, from 7pm, to honour and award the winners of the National Calypso Queen competition.

32nd Annual African Liberation Day Dinner to be held

 AFRICAN LIBERATION DAY DINNER The Caribbean Historical Society will host the 32nd Annual African Liberation Day Dinner on Friday 24 th May 2014 at the Andre Kamperveen Hall, Centre of Excellence, Macoya, from 7:30 pm. May 25 th 1963 is the day on which the newly independent states on the African continent established the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), with its headquarters at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Although the Organisation of African Unity was changed in 2002 to the African Union May 25 th was still retained as African Liberation Day.

Calypsonian King Luta (Morel Peters), is the 2014 Veterans Calypso Monarch. King Luta was adjudged winner of the Veterans Calypso Monarch Competition hosted by the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) on Monday night (24 th February), at the City Hall, Knox Street. Competition Results for the 2014 Calypso Juniors-Pathfinders

  Caryn Mc Carthy is the winner of the 2014 Juniors - Pathfinders Competition organised by the National Youth Action Committee. The competition was held on Thursday (20 th February), at Palms Club, San Fernando. Mc Carthy won with a selection entitled “ 24 hours Is Much Too Lon g”. Following is a listing of placings and the selections in Thursday’s competition.

Results of the 2014 Young Kings Calypso Monarch Competition

Bevon St. Clair is the 2014 Young King Calypso Monarch. St. Clair won the compettion with a calypso entitled “ Another Flambeau ”. The Young King Calypso Monarch Competition   was hosted last night (Monday 17 th February) by the National Action Cultural Committee at the National Academy for the performing Arts (NAPA). Results of Tobago legs of Young Kings and Juniors-Pathfinders Calypso Competitions

The finals of the Tobago Young Kings Calypso Competition  and the Tobago Calypso Juniors-Pathfinders  competition (ages 14-19) hosted by the Tobago Cultural Committee (TCC) were held Saturday (February 15 th ) at the Mason Hall Secondary School, Tobago. Rowmilia Nedd won the Tobago Calypso Juniors-Pathfinders competition while Dillon Thomas was awarded the crown as the 2014 Tobago Young King. The results are as follows:

26th Annual Top 20 Stars of Gold Awards Ceremony

NACC hosts 26 th Annual Top 20 Stars of Gold Awards The National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) will host the 26 th Annual “Top 20” Stars of Gold and Calypso of the Year Awards Ceremony on Sunday 12th January 2014, at the Queens Hall, St Ann’s, Port of Spain from 5.00 pm. This gala event hosted by the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) will highlight and honour twenty of the best calypsoes by local artistes for 2013. The feature address of the ceremony will be given by the Honourable the Chief Justice of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Justice Ivor Archie. This year’s show will be hosted by Mr. Errol Fabien. This award ceremony was introduced by the NACC in 1988 in order to develop greater respect and appreciation for the art form of calypso and those involved in the art. It has served to provide a standard of excellence to which our writers, composers and other artistes aspire.
