Prizegiving for Pioneers and Jewels Calypso Competitions 2014

1st May 2014
MEDIA RELEASE
The National Youth Action Committee (NYAC) in association with First Citizens will host the prize-giving ceremony for the Calypso Pioneers and Calypso Juniors Competitions on Sunday 4th May, from 5:30 pm at the NALIS Audio-visual Room, NALIS, POS.

The Pioneers and Jewels prize giving ceremony will be a tribute to the talent of this new generation of calypsonians and a gesture of gratitude for the support of the Pioneers' sponsor First Citizens, who have established a rewarding partnership with the young artistes and NYAC.
The winners of the 2014 Calypso Pioneers Competition and Calypso Jewels Competition, were N'Janela Duncan-Regis and Aaron Duncan, respectively. In addition twenty-two other young artistes will also receive their competition prizes.  All artistes will also be performing their 2014 selections.
The NYAC is responsible for many national youth calypso competitions which cater to various ages groups spanning from five to thirty years old. Other than the Pioneers (established in 1990) and the Jewels (inaugurated in 1994), NYAC produces the Juniors-Pathfinders (1986), and the Stars of Tomorrow Competitions (1990).
These competitions have acted as a nursery, of sorts, allowing for artistes to start from very young ages  while remaining in the advantageous position of competing with peers of their own age group as they mature.

The four competitions together showcase close to a hundred young artistes on national stages every year. Indeed, the events are truly national with respect to the participants as well as to the audiences.
